Nimitz Couple Wins $50,000 Instantly

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave announced today that Lonnie Cales of Nimitz won $50,000 playing the West Virginia Lottery’s $5 instant game Joker Mania.

Cales purchased the ticket at Three Rivers Edge in Hinton.

“I just started shaking all over,” Cales said. “I showed it to the person who sold it to me and when he ran it through the machine it confirmed it was a big winner.”

Cales’ wife could not believe the news, literally. She called to check on her husband during her lunch break that same day and when he told her that he had just won $50,000 she hung up the phone on him.

“I could not believe it and I thought he was playing a joke on me,” Vera said. “My co-workers asked what was wrong and I told them what he said and they all told me to call him back because it might be true. They were right.”

Lonnie and Vera plan to use the money to pay off their car.
