Martinsburg Man Wins $50,000

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave announced today that Daniel Watson of Martinsburg has claimed a $50,000 prize from the West Virginia Lottery's West Virginia Gold instant game.

Watson, a full-time college student that serves in the Army National Guard, bought the winning ticket at Sunny's One Stop on North Queen Street in Martinsburg.

“It was amazing! Just breath taking and my heart started pounding,” Watson said of the moment he scratched off the winning amount on the ticket. “I bought that ticket and went to dinner and a movie and did not actually scratch it off until I got home and found it in my pocket. I woke my wife (Laura) up and she didnt believe me.”

Watson says he plays the lottery regularly and had never won anything greater than $100 until now.

“I am going to use this for a down payment on a house,” Watson said.
