Herndon Resident Wins $40,000 Powerball Prize

Andrew Sizemore, 20, thought he had hit the jackpot when he claimed a $250 Cash25 prize and a $100 Powerball prize a few years ago, but that was before the Herndon resident hit a $40,000 Powerball prize in Saturday’s drawing (June 13).

The winner was able to laugh over his initial excitement, saying his was at once excited and let down. “I just nearly had a heart attack, especially since the Powerball number was 16 and mine was 12.” He matched four of the five numbers to win a $40,000 prize.

Lottery Director John Musgrave said Sizemore would have needed to match one more of the five numbers, as well as the Powerball number to win Saturday’s $59 million jackpot. He said the jackpot for Wednesday, June 17 has rolled to $72 million.

Employed by Blue Stone Energy, Sizemore said he would buy a four-wheeler for his family and save the rest.

The winning ticket was purchased from L&B Pit Stop in Bud.
