$75,000 In Lottery Prizes Claimed; Winners From Clay And Kanawha Counties

Larry Cunningham and Gene Layne said they are both “happy campers,” with West Virginia Lottery prizes they hoped for, but never expected to win.

Cunningham, who lives in Duck, bought his $50,000 Red, White & Blue instant-game winning ticket from Smiley’s in Ivydale; Layne, a resident of St. Albans, bought his $25,000 Cash25 ticket from Go Mart #20 in Nitro, according to Lottery Director John Musgrave. He said Layne’s ticket was purchased for the drawing held Sept. 24.

Layne, 69, works for Quick Delivery Service. With six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, he plans to pay a few bills “and take care of the kids a little.” Layne said he won a $5,000 prize from one of the Lottery’s instant-game promotions 15 years ago.

Cunningham said he also won a lottery prize several years ago “to the tune of $9,000,” and plans “to put this one away for a rainy day.” Cunningham said he has two grown children and two grandchildren, “with the emphasis on ‘grand’.” He is a bus driver for the Clay County school system.
