Powerball Top Cash Winners Could Win $2 Million; Lotterys Power Play Drawing To Include 10xApril 19, 2010
Back by popular demand, the power in Powerball has gone up, according to West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave.
He said that beginning with sales on Sunday, March 30, players who purchase the Power Play option could win a top cash prize of $2 million. It is guaranteed that the Power Play multiplier “10X” will be drawn at least once during the promotion.
From the Powerball drawing Saturday, May 1 through Saturday, May 29, one of the 5X numbers in the random number generator for the Power Play drawing will be replaced with a 10. If a 10 is drawn, Power Play participants who match all five white balls, but not the Powerball, will win a $2 million cash prize – 10-times the usual $200,000 prize.
“And by matching just the Powerball number, a player could win $30,” Musgrave said. The lotteries participating in Powerball could have multiple $2 million winners, but if the 10-multiplier is not drawn by May 29, Musgrave said the promotion would continue until it is.
Introduced in 2001, the Power Play option is purchased for an additional dollar per wager. During each Powerball drawing, a random number generator draws a number from 2 to 5, thereby determining the number by which all Power Play cash prizes can be multiplied. The Power Play option does not include jackpot prizes; players must purchase the Power Play option when buying a Powerball ticket, in order to participate.
