West Virginia Lottery Will Honor Two Sets of Numbers After Cash 25 Draw Reporting Error

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  – The West Virginia Lottery announced today that a reporting error occurred in the Cash 25 drawing held on Monday, July 30, 2012.

There were no equipment or technical issues associated with the actual drawing; the host correctly announced the winning numbers, and the viewing screen correctly displayed the winning numbers.  The issue came as the result of an incorrect number being recorded on one of three verification documents.  During the drawing, the number 21 was drawn, but the number 20 was incorrectly recorded and subsequently entered into the gaming system.

West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave said that while this was due to human error, it is a very unfortunate situation for the Lottery and our Cash 25 players and something the Lottery has not experienced in more than 25 years.  “The Lottery will be paying prizes for both sets of numbers recorded for the July 30, 2012 Cash 25 drawing.  We sincerely apologize for the error and any inconvenience this has caused our players and retailers,” Musgrave said.

The Lottery has asked that any players who purchased tickets for this draw hold on to their tickets for validation by Lottery officials.  “Tickets that are taken to retail locations with the correct draw numbers may not validate properly and will need to be mailed and/or brought in to Lottery headquarters for validation and payment.” Musgrave said.

Incorrectly Reported Numbers:  7 10 11 20 23 25
NUMBERS DRAWN:  7 10 11 21 23 25

Cash 25 offers a top prize of $25,000, when players match six of six numbers.  Drawings are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6:59 PM.  Players can visit wvlottery.com or contact the West Virginia Lottery Marketing Department at (304) 558-0500 with any questions.
