Match-5 Powerball® Ticket Sold in Wheeling Expires; $1 Million Powerball® Ticket Sold in Poca Still Unclaimed

8/20/2014

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave announced today that the Powerball® ticket that matched five numbers for the February 12, 2014 drawing, and was worth $1 million, that was sold at the Island Exxon in Wheeling has expired.

“The good news is we have had a record 11 tickets worth $1 million or more from Powerball and Mega Millions sold in the state this year alone, however the bad news is one of those tickets has expired and we still have one yet to be claimed,” Musgrave said.

Under state law, lottery players have 180-days from the date of a drawing in order to claim a prize. Once a ticket expires, the retailer receives its sales bonus and the prize money is transferred to the Lottery’s unclaimed prize fund which is then returned to lottery players in the form of prizes. The last day for a person to have claimed the ticket sold in February was August 11.

West Virginia Lottery officials are still waiting for someone to come forward with another Powerball® ticket that is worth $1 million. That ticket was sold at the Go Mart in Poca for the August 2, 2014 drawing and matched five numbers, missing only the Powerball number.

The holder or holders of that ticket are encouraged to sign the back of the ticket and call the West Virginia Lottery at 1-800-982-2274 for instructions.
